Detail from an ad from a mid-1950s era comic. Guess kids were allowed to wander armed and unescorted at zoos in the olden days. Many thanks to CBH Reader Jeff Cannell for sending me this beauty (and sparing us all another blog-less day from me -- hey, I've been workin').

My grandmother just recently told me a story about when she was in high school (the mid-30s), she and her classmates were putting on a school play and a shotgun was needed as a prop. So, my grandmother borrowed a shotgun from her father, carried it onto the schoolbus, and hauled it around with her at school until she could take it to rehersal.
Quite a change from kids being suspended today for even drawing a picture of a gun!
